  • No clue whats wrong with my car..fuel pump, fuel line, electrical? pls help(long post)

My car broke down about two weeks ago. I was at a red light and when it turned green I tried giving it gas, but it wasn't moving. So I turned the car off and waited about 5 mins. I tried to turn it over and it would start, but the car would start shaking and turn off it self. I had no SES lights or anything. I assumed it was my fuel pump.

So I get the car towed home. The next day while I was at work my neighbour poured some kind of product into my car to take away any water out of the gas tank. The car had been sitting for maybe 12 hours at this point. Awhile after pouring it the car started with no problem.

So on New years eve I was bombing around for about an hour and a half with no problems. I was driving down the highway at about 120km/h and tried to accelerate and had no throttle response whatsoever. The engine was still running and the car was slowing down. When I reached about 30km/h my oil meter dropped all the way down and I pulled my car over and called another tow truck. While waiting for the tow truck I tried starting the car, it turned over once and started shaking a lot so I turned it off. I checked the oil and it's full.

So I get the car home, and the next day I go to turn it over and it worked. It ran for about 30 minutes with no problem. I let it sit some more, then turned it on again a few hours later, again no issue. But 5 minutes into running it shut off again.

At first I thought it was a fuel pump, but I'm pretty sure it isn't. I drove for over an hour and a half after the first break down, im pretty sure if a fuel pump is shot, it's shot...it won't turn over again.

At this point I have no idea what's going on. Could a spark plug wire be touching the engine block somewhere? Could it be a fuel line problem? Or electrical? Why would my oil gauge go all the way down and my check gauges light come on when I have full oil? I had my injectors cleaned about 15,000 km's ago, and plugs and wires changed about 30,000km's ago. My car has 125,000 km's on it.

Any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I really don't want to spend 800 dollars getting a new pump and the labour to do it, only to find out that wasn't the issue.

Thanks in advance to any reply's.

i can say that if it was your pump it wouldnt get the pressure to stay running for 5 minutes, i could possibly be the cam sensor, but i wouldnt be positive. dont know if this helps, but good luck

I was having a problem where my SES would flash and the car would shake violently.....

I tightened up my spark plugs (they were quite loose) and it solved the problem

I had the same symptoms on mine some time ago ... intermittent hard starts, poor performance and stalls at stop lights ... followed by intermittent abnormally exceptional performance, too. The car never gave an SES light, however. I gave the car a tune-up, monitored the fuel pressure, had the injectors cleaned, etc. Then, one day, the car finally stalled on the highway and gave a P0386 code - cranshaft position sensor performance/range. I changed the sensor, and the car has run consistently ever since.

If your ses light is flashing and not steady then that is a misfire, check plugs/wires/coilpacks, i however had a problem that turned out being my fuel line was just hanging on the pump and just not supplying enough fuel, check all lines make sure they arent crimped and are on.

I've never had a SES light come on, the only time it came on was when my oil gauge went all the way down. Thanks for the advice so far guys. I hope it's a sensor issue.
