Re: Coolant leaking from engine block

If I remember correctly I removed the serpentine belt and then removed the altenator. You then disconnect the hoses from heater core to belt tensioner assembly. I believe there are 4 bolts. These are not universal so pay attention or youll install and remove bolts more than once like I did. The elbow attaches to the tensioner assembly on back right side of it. Its been a few years sense I did it so if I missed a step I apologize but when I did it I just went and took it apart and knocked it out.

Good luck and be careful removing those hoses or you could break the connectors and the hose will fly off if you really get on it. New hose is 100 bucks or so and install at dealer was 100 bucks or so. I couldn't get to lower bolt that held hose assembly in place.

The part being discussed is a $3 plastic elbow...not a coolant hose.

I know thats why I was the first person to give him a ballpark figure of how much it would cost

Summer99 asked me to explain the job of changing the elbow, so I did, and I made mention of removing coolant hoses. I then told him to be careful not to break connectors and gave him a a value of them to let him know what it will cost if he breaks them.

I got the water pump off yesterday but by the time I got off work the dealership was closed so I couldn't buy the elbow or the gasket. Also the guy I talked to at the part shop said there is an elbow on the tensioner that the pump pushes water to. Is that the same one everyone else is talking about or do I need to get the tensioner off? Also when I took off the pump coolant was in one of the holes when I took a bolt out, is that normal? The gasket was toast but I figured that was from me pulling it off.
            Thanks,
            Gonz

The elbow off the tensioner is what everyone is talking about and you do have to remove the tensioner to get to it.
