Ok I just bought a 1994 Firebird V6...I am having a starting issue...When it is cold I have to pump the gas a bunch of times while turning the key to get it to start. Once it is warm it starts easy with usual to no pumping of the gas. I changed out the spark plugs and still have the issue. Once running it drives great - no problems at all! The guy who sold the car is convinced it is a bad battery but why would pumping the gas make it start if it is the battery?
what else should I be looking for to figure out what is going on?
Robin
OK this may sound like a dumb question but how do I check the fuel pressure?
And yes I do have a weak battery - hooked it up to the charger and it won't take a full charge - but doesn't seem like pumping the gas would help it start if the battery was weak...???
I am new to Firebirds and my BF is stumped after spark plugs and fuel filter didn't help! Possibly spark plug wires? No clue here!
Robin
get a new battery, then get it scanned. obd is a wonderful thing.
pumping with a carb injected more fuel. with pfi, it does nothing. the computer, however, does recognize when you -hold- the throttle all the way open.
