  • coolant turned to poop?

I think I may have a serious problem with my coolant system. A few weeks ago I noticed that the antifreeze was a little on the orange side, and I figured "no big deal it's just really old" so I went to the local parts store and bought a radiator back flush kit. Hooked it up to the garden hose, ran the engine, and let water run through it until it was crystal clear again. Then I filled it up with 11 quarts of coolant. I noticed a small leak that seemed to be coming from the bottom of the coolant overflow. Again I figured it wasn't a big deal because I assumed it was just trickling down from the top of the overflow. Well Today I went to go make sure I still had plenty of coolant and this is what I found:

Scared the **** outta me to say the least.
It's not even a liquid it's like cookie batter or something, as seen here:

Obviously I don't know what the hell to make of this and I'd really appreciate your 2 cents. Thanks guys

thats um???? thats some crazy **** right there. Maybe a blown headgasket and oil mixing in, or maybe nobody every changed the fluids and there was alot of rust mixing in. Try flushing it out a few more time, and I mean flushing by taking it somewhere and letting them flush it out. Then if that doesn't fix it, I'd take it to someone.

the first links worked, but you had the word S$IT in it so therefore someone has to link that in the address bar and change the ****.

Because your pics have the word **** in them, change the name to something other than **** and the **** should work right.

What the hell was in that stuff? It looks like it just ate away and corroded the hell out of your system. Reflush with something a little less potent.

I just ran straight tap water through it.

                    Re: coolant turned to poop?

I'm geussing I probably should have used distilled water? I let all of the tap water drain out before I put the coolant in, and I used prestone 50/50 premixed

I think distilled is what is recomended. Never thought it would make that much of a diff though.

                        Re: coolant turned to poop?

wow, that is going to take some serious flushing to get all of that crap out of there. That is some of the worst that I have seen. Usually it is a few chunks floating but you can still see the coolant. Yours is solid poop. lol

might take 2-3 flushes to get it all out. Use distilled water also

                          Re: coolant turned to poop?

how should I go about pumping distilled water through the radiator? I don't get it, it wasn't half that bad when I flushed it a few weeks ago.

take it to a shop or drain it out through the bottom. Do a search for how to flush a radiater and there are some writeups on this site for it.

For me I go to our shop and just hook up the machine. :)

                              Re: coolant turned to poop?

wow...that definitly looks like sumone **** in your system lol. Only thing I can think of is possibly a blown intake gasket and oil is getting in? I know when my gasket went it was a colour like that only a little darker and I had chunks on my coolant check stick... Hows your oil level? and how was your oil level previously? i.e before your last oil change, where u running low?

If it is a blown head gasket you can check by leaving the rad cap off and start the car, and watch for bubbles. If you see a steady flow of bubbles coming to the top then its your head gasket.

my guess would still be intake gasket tho, I do believe it is a common problem on the 3.8's if im not mistaken
