  • Alternator; 3800 Firebird...

Anyone know the part number for the POS alternator on our cars? I think mine is about to go out since the pulley is making this "my bearings are shot" noise.

Better yet...all I can find is a price that's quoted to be wholesale at $208 (ouch!).

Better still: anyone know if the 97-2000 GTP alternators are the same type, style and bolt pattern as ours? I have a lead on a $20 alternator from a GTP out of the box.

PLEASE let me know, as I'm scared that one day, especially a test day or a first day on a new job, I'll be stranded since my car can't crank.

    Bah.

Oh, anyone know of a freakin' alternator for our crs that's worth a ****? This makes #4 to have gone bad in ~70K miles.

    Ricardo

Ouch, I've got 117k mi on the car and no alt prob, even with a sound system. Damn, knock on wood :D
Hope you have better luck with the next one.

Looks like they're the same. First price is core, next is unit price. "LLT" = lifetime limited warranty. Your welcome :D

Try to see if you can get a replacement from autozone or somewhere for around $50-70.
