• So.... what genius from GM decided how to route the ignition wires on '00 3.8L?

I got my plugs and heat sleeves today to go with my wires... so I take a gander under my hood to do a really good servey of what I need to do and maybe some routing ideas...

Remeber this is factory stock with 38,000 never touched

-my #6 wire is laying on my exhaust manifold in 2 spots and looks cooked in 3 spots..
-driver side wires forced through the wire loom and rubbing against a piece of metal and has worn spots on 2 wires, where the rubber is pretty rubbed off... Didn't look any further...

Either way I bought some high-twoer wire looms form advanced auto, some wire sepreators, gonna run them up and over the valve covers...

also have heat sleeves to put on the boots and wires, so I should be good.

-I am running msd 8.5mm (Great deal from www.ammperformance.com)
    -NGK-TR55 plugs
-MSD boot heat sleeves, 6' roll 1000* protection(I got it at www.summitracing.com)

ignition is bit overkill on my stock car but I feel its one of those overlooked parts of the car that provides efficency and I got good deals on all the parts )

I am hoping this quality stuff with overkill protection will prevent any misfire problems that many have had...

be glad you dont have a 98 or lower, it would be much worse for you. I couldn't even get to two of my plugs to get them out... It's probably the hardest thing I've had to do on my car yet.

Your plugs should be good for 100,000 miles, they're platinum plugs, at 38,000 I doubt you'd need new plugs unless you've done some major mods... If your missing it's probably just the wires.

Ehh for the $11.89 I'll have peace of mind, I just did my plugs and wires...

took me rougly 35-40 mintues. Its amazing working on a car with low miles, barely got dirty doing it Not bad for my first time ever on this car, and I did it in the middle of the night with nothing but a 2 AA Maglite in my mouth

As for the car, runs alot stronger, I think I am going to hit the track up on wednesday night and see if I can pull a new best

But I removed old, wire brushed teh points on the coils, cleaned them off and hooked everything up...

It was a typical plug job hardest part I had was pulling the stock boots off the stock plugs...

though this time I did have a handy dandy little tool, its a socket wrench but jsut a circular disk you turn in your hand don't have the handle... Its really nice. I just had to get one turn with a regular wrench to get it started then do it with the new tool. Trying to do it with a regular wrecnh could have been a pain in the ***... Some tight places in there...

              The little metal ones?

They are not the most effective... I also reused those along with my heat sleeves, and my heat sleaves go are a foot long so they go up alot further then the little 3 in. metal boot protectors that don't even cover teh boots all the way.

hehe I promise it wouldnt have been less than an hour by yourself on a pre-98, they re-did the manifold after 98 to make it easier to get to the plugs.

hence why I bought it... I was set for a v8 had already owned 2 v6 f-bodies but it was a great deal. In reality main reason why I was dumping my car is I needed a good daily driver, I bought it with 32k on the clock. Reason why I keep it so clean is I hope to sell it and it actually have value in a year or two
