The big stink on all this lately is that we (Texas) are under a federal watch. We had the worst pollution ratings last year. If Texas does not improve the air quality by Federal standards then Texas loses substatial Federal funding. So, they are cracking down. This is the same reason the morons thought that they would lower emissions by reducin the speed limits from 70 to 55. Go figure that one out, especially since speed limits are set based on Federal Safety Standards of safety, not emissions. LOL

I was under the impression that the speed limits were dropped because by keeping them at 70 we were loosing federal funding. I didn't know that the drop was emissions based, only heard that is was directly about funding.

Yes, we would lose federal funding do to pollution problems. They had some stoopid idea that by making everyone slow down and stay in traffic longer they would reduce emissions.

Any how, that's been challenged and we should go back to 65 or 70 next year.
