I have a 2002 Camaro with the 3800 Series II engine and it never fails when I first start the car in the morning ... romp-romp-romp-romp-romp-romp for about 15 seconds. Turning off the A/C lessens the romping somewhat.
Anything I can do to make the romping sound go away?
thats an old school thing if you left the ac on it would engauge the compressor when you started it up next time increasing load on the starter that is no longer an issue
yeah mine romps REALLY bad in the mornings. i kinda like it tho b/c it sounds like it has a NASTY cam on it but i dont like the way it takes a good trip to 45mph before the throttle behaves normally. if i mash it, i get this choking sound from the exhaust for a few seconds and then BOOM, power.
I know i'm running rich as hell tho. the ground for my O2 sensors is shot to hell and i've been too lazy to fix it lately. I get SES codes for it. Maybe that's ur problem...

That's how my car was before I changed my fuel pressure regulator.
