• Weird RPM range when accelerating

Lately I've notice when I drive that my RPMs are somewhere in the range of 3000 when accelerating at a relatively slow speed, and 3800 when attempting to floor it. It would slowly creep up to 4100 if I help my foot on the pedal for probably a minute or more (if I'm lucky). If I somehow made it hit 5200 (or there about) it would jump down to 4100 just as soon as it hit the 5200 mark and sometimes back up to 5200 then back down.

I remember when I'd step on the gas it would instantly hit 3800 - 4100, and if I floored it, it would hit 5200 and stick there until the next shift point. I only ask because it felt like I just about stalled out on the New Jersey Turnpike today as if I was was running low on gas or something with a car right on my *** (as always). If I remember right that could mean a leak in the headers, but it's been a while since anything like this has happened. I've had a rebuilt trans dropped in little less than 10,000 miles ago. The engine temp is between 160 and 210.

Any incite would be greatly appreciated. =)

Is what you describe the actual engine RPM? What I mean is when the Tach is jumping around like that, can you actually hear and feel the engine doing the same thing, or is it only the Tach (indication) that's erratic and the engine revs and pulls consistently?
Now Playing: \'99 Pewter Firebird, stock, bone stock, and nothing but stock, so help me God!
Comming attractions: K&N Filter, Lid Mod, Intake Bellows Smooth Pipe Mod.
I dream about: Forced Induction (TC or SC) or NOX (or both!)

You can hear the engine doing the same exact thing. It's not an erratic behavior.

Sounds like the o2 sensors on your manifold. Your check engine light is on i would imagine. If so , take the car to autozone and they can check the codes for you and tell you whats wrong.

No check engine like. About 2 months ago it was on, but that was for an evap code (I'm guessing gas cap?).

that really sounds like a trans problem man i know you said it was new 10k ago but things do happen. does the engine rev freely in park

It sounds fine in park. Granted I have a 1985 Camaro that sounds fine in park but needed a new trans. I can rev it till it hits the 4k limiter. (If you know how to get rid of that, that would be awesome)

I put the air-damn back on instead of running a straight line from the throttle body to the air-box. It seems a bit better. But every now and then I'll max out at 4100. We'll see what tomorrow holds when I get out of work. I really hate overnights.
