  • cracked block???

Ok for a while my car has been leaking a little bit of oil, but it never seems to get low on the gauge or on the dipstick so i have lived with it. Recently it has developed a pretty nasty coolant leak and i cant find the source. It doesnt seem to be fron the water pump nor from the hoses but i can see a puddle on top of the front engine mount when looking down. ANy ideas on where it mgiht be leaking? ALso does this suggest the block might be cracked somewhere?

And on the note of a cracked block, i read a bunch of posts on a 3.4-3.8 (pat on the back for doing a search first) but im curious how much a 3.4 replacement would cost compared. Id rather put a 3.8 in because i dotn want to shell out the cash for the new fuel lines, rear end, and transmission neeedd for an LT1, but it would probaly be even more cost effiecient to just replace the 3.4 with another 3.4. Assuming the engines cost the same or close, how much would it cost to put in another 3.4 vs switching to a 3.8? Guesses on the labor and parts costs for both would be appreicated seeing how i cant do this myself and have no close friends who could either

    thanks for opinions or advice

For a possible coolant leak, check the water pump, it has weep holes and that is usually where the coolant will come from. I had that happen, drove me nuts until I saw it leaking one day. It is possible to crack a blockm but ours are almost bullitproof. Good Luck.
