  • Transmission issue, or ignition issue?

Ok well if im driving on the freeway at around 60-70 mph. Around 2000 rpm'ms in my automatic.

When i let off the gas going that fast to head towards and exit. I can see my rpm's dropping to around 1500 or so. And then instead of staying a consistant 1500 rpm's. I can notice and kinda hear in the exhaust as well, do an up and down surging kind of thing. Its not noticeable at all unless ur driving the car and pay attention to it. I was just thinking that its just missing alittle bit.

But im not sure if its normal or not.

Does anything no what im talking about???

The rpm's will jump up and down 100-200 rpm's fro mthe original 1500 rpms' that the engine is staying at while im coasting from going fast.

    Alittle help i would like!!

I think I know what you're talking about, like there are really quick pulses of fuel being delivered into the engine. Mine doesn't happen unless I'm around 3500-4k RPM. (btw, I drive a 93 3.4 automatic) Not too sure what it is, but I'd check the ignition. Coils, plugs, wires, etc. Find out if you have a problem with any of those. My problem isn't a constant one. It happens pretty rarely. Maybe 2 times a month, if even that. So for me, it's hard to fix, much less diagnose.

yea i no what your talking about with the automatic. When ever i down****ft into like 2 lets just say going around 35-40 mph with an auto, it will downshift my rpm's up to around lets just say above 2000k. When it gets to that point, without being on the gas, it just being stuck in 2, the rpm's will fluctuate acouple hundred rpms' up and down, then be normal, and then do it mabey again after acouple of seconds. And i can hear the offness in my exhaust, rumbles alittle bit when it fluctuates. But its barley noticeable.

I have replaced wires, plugs recently and i have 130k. But have never changed the coils..

I think you're talking about something a little different than what I am. Maybe not. Mine only does it when I'm pressing down on the throttle in Drive gear at around 4k RPM at somewhere between 75-85 MPH. You might wanna check your coils. You may have a weak one. Well, I'm assuming you have coils... If you do, take one plug wire off of a plug and stick a screwdriver in it (make sure the screwdriver is insulated!). Put it near some piece of metal where it can ground out, but don't touch it! Put the screwdriver near it, then turn the motor over. You should see a spark jump between the screwdriver and the metal. Test one plug wire from each coil (meaning you only have to do 3 wires. One from each coil.) If you see that the sparks from one coil are weaker than the other two, you need to replace that one. I hope this info helps. Once again. I'm not too sure what your problem is, but this is where I'd check.
