Just recently I started experiencing the same issue. I was averaging 23MPG, which I wasn't happy with after reading that some are getting upwards of 27.
I replaced my fuel filter, last part of a full tune up and coincidentally and almost immediately I noticed the drop in MPG. right now I am averaging 15-16MPG. I know my clutch is shot and hopefully the clutch will be in before Sat. Have an appt with my mecanic and he's gonna replace it for $250 labor.
I have an CAI, 3in cat back, hi flow magnaflow cat and pacesetters. It's a '96 maro.
Hmm. Could be the clutch...
Just got back from a 2k mile trip to FL and TN and ave. 28.9 mpg. Stock 3800 M5 with whisperlid and Borla, fresh sensors and filters. 70-80 on freeways, hammer down often on backroads showing off to the boys...
Intake and exhaust mods on 3800s should always return improved MPG.
I replaced the sensor coming off the driver side manifold. But yeah, I'm getting that highway... about 21 city.
Thats still amazing! I would say 18 or less for me...
Wouldn't the car throw a code if a sensor was bad?
I think we need a thread started on everything to do to increase milage. Not just maintenance to bring it back to factory specs. But one that states add ons, mods, and parts to increase it past the original MPG. One that covers it all...
I would happily do a write-up if I can get some info from multiple set-ups and proven gains. We need a centralized location and well organized write-up instead of sparatic posts. This is really a big deal these days, and Im sure since performance would be a side benifit, it would intrest this entire board.
Really wanting to do this guys. So send me info ppl! Post here or email me: nimrod.sixty9@gmail.com
the worst I've gotten since I rebuilt my motor was 24.6 mpg my best so far has been 29,both combined (I haven't gotten to do a all highway run) I usually get 26-28
99+ have the bigger gas tank, mine is a 95.I usually fill up after 400 miles

Yeah... but now that I have this problem taken care of, I'm spewing steering fluid everywhere. I have to fill it up every two to three days. Ah, I see the fun beginning.
Guys, you can't really compare gas mileage by how many miles you drove on the last tank... I'm sure we all fill up at various stages of "empty".
I fill my tank anytime I stop for gas, I never just add $10. I get a receipt and write down the mileage on my trip meter and reset it. Divide the mileage by the actual gallons I put in.
My mileage has varied from 28.7mpg, (very light throttle, speed limit, cruise control) to a low of 21 mpg (lots of fun driving)

Hey everyone! I've been trying to remove my transmission for two days now! I need to replace the clutch. Only thing I've got left holding the transmission...
Hello, so I changed the front bearings on the bird and the ABS inoperative light came on. I made a mistake of not removing negative battery cable. Now...
I usually have to double, triple my headlight switch for them to come up on my 97 Firebird. I cleaned all connections. Could it be the headlight switch...
