I just bought a thermostat and I dont know where to put it in at this is supposed to help my car from over heating. can anyone tell me or show me a picture of where to put this in. I need advice like right now so I can do it asap.

Is there any other things that would cause my car to over heat and since that my car has a different sound and I have a cutout and I can still notice a different sound.

I will say when I drive at high speeds the temperture drops
a little bit but if I come to a stop it will not go anywhere for about a minute then it keeps going. Basically its like I got a cam and I hate the sound can anybody help me out

check your radiator fluid... when its low it may cause it to warm up. I filled mine up last year becaue my car was hot and I noticed the fluid was low. Never had a problem since.

There are several things that could make a car overheat. First off, did you check the coolant level? My car's overheating as well. I've already fixed one of the problems that was causing it to overheat. It was the PCM/Fan temperature sensor(the other one is for the gauge). It's right next to the thermostat housing, which is under the throttle body. Before replacing it, the fan would only come on when I turned the AC on. It also caused my car to hesitate when I gave it gas, especially in reverse. It also sounded like my car had a cam as well. That's one thing. There's also the possibility of a bad fan or bad fan relay. I would turn the AC on and see if the fan comes on, you'll here it when it comes on. There could also be an air leak in the coolant system, which is what's wrong with my car now. An air leak could be something simple like a hose, or something harder to fix like a blown head gasket or intake manifold gasket. Also, make sure you're coolant system is properly burped. You can get a pair of head gaskets from AutoZone for $22 or an intake manifold gasket set for $18. I know, it sucks.

well today the guy at autozone told me I needed a new alternator and that was one of the reasons why my car was over heating so I bought it for 151. But just now I figured out my my battery terminal was never completely tightened and the car started up perfect. The way I figured it was my battery I left my keys in the car and just started moving around wires and soon as I touched the positive red wire car cut on and I made sure I tightened it real tight.

I also unscrewed something under my hood while my car was on this was supposed to get rid of any air bubbles that I might have. I let the car run and it didn't go past 160 even with me reving my engine. I also changed out one fuse which was the havoc fuse #20 but Im sure that wasn't the problem at all.

So all in all is good for now but tommorrow I will be returning the alternator and the plug wires that I bought which were also 30 dollars. I will update on how my car runs tommorrow and have almost 200 dollars to spend on something else for my car

Advice.... Don't listen to the guys at auto zone. Just don't. They know as much about diagnosing as I do about cosmetology. The only good thing auto zone offers me (minus parts) is free OBD2 scanning since my broke *** cant afford my own scanner.

Apart from the previously stated, you may need to burp the radiator. When the car is cool take the cap off and let it run for a while, keeping an eye on the level. Sometimes you have to gently squeeze the upper radiator hose, but every case is different. Be careful tho so hot coolant doesn't pop up. Make SURE your topping it off with some sort of global anti freeze, not the green stuff. I know theres a lotta talk about that stuff being bad for your radiator, but the GM Dex Cool thing is over now. Go to auto zone and buy a gallon of non mixed red or yellow coolant.

Oh, and please punch the guy in the face who sold you an alternator when you said your car was over heating. In fact, if you could get that on camera I'll be a happy camper.

also check to make sure your fans turn on mine would not causing it to over heat I riged it up where if the key is on the fans are on.

my car overheats as well. ill be driving and the temp will stay near 160. then, ill get up to a stop light, and the temp guage goes up like crazy. it usually hits about 210 then settles. then when i start driving it gets cooler. i know that the fans are on cause i hear them kick on at about 195ish. i also am using the neon green radiator fluid. ive heard not to do that, and should i have to fill it up like every few weeks or so. or is that a leak. and... also when i put the fluid in it is bright green, when i go to refill it... in a few weeks, its a nasty puke brown. is that bad. or is that normal. thanks for any help.

did you ever flush the system? If not you are mixing reg (green) with dexcool (orange) and that's bad.

reaching 210 is normal for our cars, if it was like 230 I would be worried, but in traffic our cars are programmed to go to 210 before cooling down. Totally normal, if you want to keep it lower get a lower t-stat and program your PCM to turn the fans on sooner.

take it to a shop to completely flush out that system, the muddy goo can be tough to get all out just by doing it at home. A shop will stick a machine on it to suck the crap out
