  • A few Q's

Well i recently got a 97 m5 camaro in may and have been driving in pretty regularly. When I first got it it needed the radiator flushed pretty badly and a new water pump. Then everything was fine until lately it has been missing during mild and heavy acceleration. My dad also noticed that when it was up on a lift that the rear seal was leaking. I have been told its only like a $3 part. I was just going to take it to the shop and have them replace the seal and do plugs and wires. Does this sounds reasonable. I Don't know much about cars but I would think the misfires would be cause of the wires and plugs. But at this point I dont really know.

Also on the interior the leather around the stick shift is falling down through the console cause some of the plastic clips around the base have broke I was wondering if there are any fixes or replacement parts that can make it look any better?

    Thanks

    Re: A few Q's

a rear main seal fix through a shop is going to be extremely expensive as they have to remove the trans to get to it. Not an easy/quick fix. My seal has been leaking since I got is 5 years ago, no biggy as long as it is just a few drops.

I would change your spark plugs and wires first, if it is still missing then it most likely is a coil pack. All of which you can change yourself with some tools.

Expect to pay $100 to get your wires and plugs changed at least by a shop

plugs and wires should fix the miss. A seal may be a $3 part but if you aren't doing the repair or know someone that's doing it for you it will quickly add up. The leather piece you have 3 options: Junkyard, dealer or sometimes people on here will post up obscure seemingly useless items for sale. Oh and welcome, make sure your using the search feature most all info you can think of is around here somewhere.

If you replace the plugs and wires and still have the problem you might want to check/replace your crank sensor.

Yeah I have found on here by just lurking that a spark plugs and wires are in that price range, and I have alwatys realized its not a job to take on by yourself with my kind of knowledge. But where I work we have a chip guy that comes and fills our displays and he noticed my Camaro in the parking and said he had on just like it except his was a 96. He was telling me how his seal had a leak to and it only took him about forty five minutes to fix and he said it could have been done faster with a proper lift and tools. So I dont know if I know what I am talking about but is he talking about a different seal?
