anyone have problems with their oil filter leaking
Re: anyone have problems with their oil filter leaking
I usually put a thin film of vaseline on the ring and i've never had a problem with it leaking around the filter. My girlfriends car had the same problem, changed her oil and filter, and put the vaseline on the ring and no more leak.
Re: anyone have problems with their oil filter leaking
hmm.... I just put a little bit of oil around it before putting it on. I guess vasoline would work fine. Try that and see what happens. Also... not to put you down but usually the problem is something you tend to over look... are you sure its the right type of filter? I've been given the wrong type before.

Re: anyone have problems with their oil filter leaking
well sorry I'm not of any help but the only thing I can think of is that you didn't get the old gasket off... the gasket ring moved when the filter was going on or you have bad luck and got a ****ty filter.

thanks, i will try vaseline next time.
anyone else have a fix?
I have to crank the damn filter down so hard
You shouldn't have to crank the oil filter down tight , just snug . I think your overtightening it , causing it to leak. Remember, about hand tight Should do it

the ONLY way is to crank it down hard.. believe me, i have changed oil in many cars before, i know how tight they should be.
if i put it that tight, it will leave huge puddles of oil on the ground
what happened, was teh first time i changed oil, i put it as tight as they should go, it leaked everywhere, and i kept tightening it until it stopped leaking
