I was taking an 80 mile trip back home from college and my Security light came on and went off about 3 times during the trip. I just thought it was a small glitch and would go away. Well I park at home and later try to turn it on, but it sounds like it is having problems (like a dead battery or something).
Would this be starter, or battery relaed?
WTF is going on?
Was the security light on again when you tried to dstart the car?
If you haven't noticed already there is a little resistor set in the key that completes a curcit going throught the key ignition. If the computer doesn't see the right resistance it keep the car from starting.
My advice to you would be to check the contacts on the resistor, clean them if need be and try to start it again. Also make sure it is not loose indise the key. I had a problem with my '92 like that, the resistor was loose and was not making a good connection.
if the resistor was moving around or was dirty, the vibrations from driving could trigger the security light. The car won't shut off if the security light is on and the car is already running, but if the security light is on when you start it, it will either run for a sec and cut the fuel, or just not put power to the starter. I'd go to a locksmith or dealer and pick up a new key.

What is the better/cheaper solution? I think my dad had a copy made at like Aces hardware, but it throws the security light everytime you put it in and it won't start. This key used to work all the time flawlessly.

That key either did not have the resistor in it or it was not the correct resistance value. If your key no longer works you will need to have a key orderd from the dealership. I would aslo try cleaning the key first.

The resistor is loose. I don't think it needs to be cleaned.
What is the cheapest way to replace a key? I bet the dealership is expensive, is there a cheaper way?
sounds like the key is dirty, same thing happens to me sometimes, the light will go on/off while drive, but there are no problems starting it because the resistor is fine

Hello, so I changed the front bearings on the bird and the ABS inoperative light came on. I made a mistake of not removing negative battery cable. Now...
I usually have to double, triple my headlight switch for them to come up on my 97 Firebird. I cleaned all connections. Could it be the headlight switch...
