    I have a 99 firebird with a 3800 auto. the car has 93000 on body and 3300 on rebuilt engine.car sat for a year trying to get money from bad oil change that costs me engine ending up paying 3200 out of my pocket anyway the car ran descent but if you gave it more than half throttle it would fall on its face floored it to see what happen engine light said multiple misfires so I replaced plugs and wires and new fuel filter cleaned throttlebody and maf but still surges and when you leave from a stop it will have no power than it will pickup good then kind of lose a little power again but not always lost wanting to fix so I can sell to buy wife a ramair any ideas?

    check your coil packs and icm, most likely the coil packs...

      coil packs are fine is it possible its the cat.converter seems like exhaust is muffled would it be possible that the o2 sensor code is from this and computer trying to adjust for this and is there a way to test this.also if it is can I take out cat.and put pipe in there without effecting computer

        I have heard of the cat causing misfire issues before... Yes you can take the cat out and replace it with a straight pipe, but check your local emission laws first. You will also need an o2 simulator so that it doesn't trip the ses light. Lightly hit the cat with a rubber mallet and see if you hear any rattling. If you do then it probably is bad. Other than that, if it were the o2 sensor, I'm not sure how to check if thats still good. The only thing you can do is take it to autozone and have it tested to see if any codes come up for that o2.
