    1994 Firebird 3.4 A4 132,000

Ok well i recently got an oil change at jiffy lube, and had them put in 10w40 since my oil pressure at idle was getting really really low sometimes after i been driving for a while. I would want of them to put in 5w40 but was stuck with 10w40. Well now, im noticing that after i drive, i pop my hood and notice that the sides of my engine are smoking..? I do not know why, from both sides, and also i see smoke coming out under from where the belt system is out front. The smell doesnt really smell like oil to much to me when i last investigated, but i did smell like my engine. My car is driving completely normal and has actually kept my oil pressure alittle higher then it used to and no higher then 75 psi. I also can see underneath the car that its smoking out from where the exhaust meets the front of the oil pan.

What could be causing this right now?? Im hoping you guys are gunna say bad oil filter......LOL:omg:

I have good oil, AT fluid, PS/brake fluid, new cooling system, seafoamed, cat conv, pvc, plugs/wires, o2 sensors, CAI, catback exhaust..

    Thanks in advance.

First, Jiffy Lube and Valvoline quick change places suck. They left the oil cap off of my old car, an OHC engine, what a mess!, and that was my first and last time going to a Valvoline quick change.

I'm going to guess that they spilled a little (or a lot) of oil on you engine when they were filling it. Double check the level of the oil, just incase you are leaking someplace. Check the pcv valve and valve cover plugs and make sure they are seated ok. they are on top of the black valve covers, you'll see the pipe where they meet the valve covers. Of course, check and make sure they put your oil cap back on. Is it still smoking, or just when you drove back home?

Just an aside, be careful with the higher weights, your pressure may be higher which will make the guage look okay, but they won't flow as well as a 10w30. Check around the oil plug for leaks, those "quickie" places love using torque wrenches on oil plugs (for the love of kittens: WHY?!?!?!).

ok, well thanks for the reply, really appreciate it.

There is no oil spilled anywhere on my engine from what i can see. I was thinking that "mabey" when they went to change my filter from the bottom , that they spilled a **** load of the oil on all over the exhaust area and now its just burning off, so mabey it dried up alittle bit on there.

But i did get my oil changed about 5 days ago. so i would think that the oil would be burned off by now. when my car is fully warmed up thats when the engine will start smoking.

      thanks

Yea I kinda have the same problem...I leak a bit of oil from the back of my engine...but only when i drive it hard...it drops onto the exhaust pipes and almost smells like a burning rubber or plastic...smokes a bit to...hopefully it was they just spilled oil on your pipes and your fine

Yea, I think thats what it is...but to me it doesnt smell like burnt oil...not quite like burning rubber...but like a combination of plastic oil and rubber burning...I dunno how to explain it...just smells weird lol
