You leaked out your refrigerant. Freon contains an oil. Hence your oil mess. In the shop here I carry 30lb jugs of it...If I spray enough in one spot it's simply a puddle of oil. And it stinks! Go through your lines...look for any obvious damages...change your seals. If you have the right tools pump nitrogen into the A/C system to about 50 PSI...you'll hear the leak and can soap it to find it. Fix the leak...repeat until no more. Then go to your local parts store or garage and have your system recharged. Ding!....A/C works again!
Or you can get one of those top-off cans of R22 with the dye in it. Then as it leaks out, look for where the dye is coming from. But don't wait too long, or you'll have dye everywhere, just like the oil mess.
