  • SES Light

Well my SES light came on again today, and the results are as follows:

    P0446

Definition: EVAP (Evaporative Emission System) purge/vent solenoid circuit condition.

    Explanation:
The solenoids and system wiring are monitored for opens or shorts

    Probable Causes,
1 - Purge or vent solenoids defective
2 - Check connector and Wiring
3 - Fuel Saturated vapor canister
4 - Failed EVAP Vent Solenoid

Ok I know my car has been running rich lately because when I start it up for the first time for the day i see a little bit of black smoke coming out of the exhaust pipes, however I have no CLUE as to what this code means, so PLEASE all info and help is appreciated so I can see what the best route to go is. Thanks!

    Re: SES Light

it could be 1 of 2 things. the purge valve which is right above you egr valve(held in with one screw) then there is the evap canister. if you have a 93-00 your canister is behind the black plastic panel on the driver side re wheel wel. if you have a 01-02 then the canister is on top of your gas tank. yes the whole tank needs to be droped.

      Re: SES Light

hmm, well about 8 months ago i had a shop replace my exhaust and fuel pump, they obviously had to drop the tank for this. Any chance they could have screwed that **** up while they did that?

Also, whats the severity of this?

            Re: SES Light

i would start with the purge valve. put it in, be careful. if it doesn't fix it take the new one out and put the old one back in. return that part. then try the canister
