I just bought a 98 firebird, and I didn't notice the sound when I test drove it, but sometimes, more commonly when I'm pressing on the pedal a little harder than I need to, it makes a weird high pitched, crackling sound that sounds like it's coming from the ash tray, cigarrette lighter area. It almost sounds electrical the way it crackles. It gets higher in pitch when i step on the gas, and gets lower when I release, making it sound as if it's related to the RPM or something. Wondering what anybody thinks it could be.

Re: Weird high pitched sound
When I had my third gen firebird my radar detector would squeal high and low like that. I finally payed no attention to it until finally my car died. The battery cable fell off from corrosion. It happened a few more times... (the battery cable became loose) and I always knew to pull over because it was about to fall off and lose power again. I finally just got a new battery that wasn't all corroded. Just my story, check the batt cables lol.
