  • car makes electrical tick noises when cold

when i open my door in the morning y car will make a few ticking noises before the door ajar dinging sounds. then i put the key in and go to start it and it wont start. it will tick a little and then start. it seems to be coming from the passenger side of my dash like behind the glove box. it only seems to do this in the winter time when its like 45 F or lower. nothing in the summer. it makes the same ticking noises as when the battery is dead. think its a relay but haven't looked into it. once the car has been started it is fine the rest of theday, but when it gets cold over night its almost like the relay or whatever it is clicks and warms up before you hear the door ajar bell. thanks guys

i wonder if its a 96 thing or something. sounds weird though doesn't it. the dealership said he would keep it overnight with the windows down so it would definetly freeze. then crawl inside under the glovebox and have someone open the door to see where it might be coming from. i havent tried this but will soon. urrrrrgggggg

they are tickened and clean. i even scraped the battery terminals to expose new and uncorroded metal. connections are great. remember it only does it when the car is cold. and the headlights will turn right on. turning the key on is when i hear the ticking noises the security light blinks once per tick. when the ticking stops the security light stays on like usual until your car is on. it ticks when i open the door too. the ticking will stop in a few seconds and the the door ajar bell will sound and dome lights come on.

hey guys, you know how the radio and everything works until you open the door right. i wonder if it is that little sensor thing. im almost positive it is now that i think about it. lets all do some research on the security-dooropen accessory sensor thing. lets get this thing figured out so we can go on without ticking in our lives. he he

i have a 96 too. does it only happen on 96's?

ahhhhhhhhhh, i hate it. it happened the other day to me when it was wicked cold out, and the damn car clicked like a feind, i put the key in the ignition, turned it to start, and the clicking stopped and the car didnt start.

then the car started when i tried it again, and died immediately.

then it would just crank and misfire for the next like 2 minutes.

                finally it started.

                pisses me off. rrgh!

                we gotta find this out.

That would be the vats messing up, probably the sensor on your keys has worn down. Not getting a good connection

it clicks before the key is even in the ignition. its the door chime clicking, and then the car wont start.

does anybody think it could be the BCM? Has anybody ever had a bad BCM?

im thinkin it is the door thing too.

i just went out to my car tonight in the snow, and when i opened the door, it clicked for like 4 seconds rapidly.

then it stopped, the dome light came on, and the car started fine.

You guys sure it's just not the battery being weak from the cold, when the weather is in the 20's my car is slow cranking and when it's below 20 it sometimes takes a couple times to start it. And everytime my battery is weak or if I'm reconecting my battery it'll make that clicking noise. I'm thinking it is just the cold causing the battery to be weak, and the door ajar bell is using what little juice that the battery has.
