  • Synthetic Oil Question

I have read many threads about synthetic oil on this forum. But this is one thing I have never seen in them and I am wondering about is high mileage synthetic oil. I know a lot of people on here use synthetics and some believe it has caused a leak in their engine with higher mileage, but no one has mentioned anything about trying out high mileage synthetics, I know both Valvoline and Mobil 1 make high mileage synthetic oil. Has anyone ever used a high mileage synthetic oil? I am thinking of trying them out and wanted to see if anyone else has used them. They are supposed to do the same thing as any other high mileage oil but they are synthetic. I might wait until next summer to try it as I can only find 10w30 for Mobil 1 and Valvoline make a 5w30 but the Auto Zone by where I live never has any.

The place I get my oil from the regular synthetic Mobil 1 is the same price as the high mileage Mobil 1.

agreed, high mileage oil does work to some degree. It's not gonna stop any leak you have, and it certainly most likely wont stop it on the first time, but It will swell the seals and cause a better seal. also, the oil is synthetic, so it is created in a uniform order, which means, if you are burning oil, it may stop this from occuring since synthetics tend to have a boiling point of 600+ degrees

"Raven" has 219,000 miles. I looked at the "high mileage synthetics" and I changed from Castrol Syntec to AMSOIL.
