  • 3.4, driving at 65 and 3k RPMS?

This has happened to me twice. Im driving and the car feels weird, i look down the RPMs are at 3k and im going 65, if i go 70,75,80 it still stays at 3k rpms.

But if i park the car and turn it off, and turn it back on its back to normal. What gives?

    car is a 94 3.4 a4

How old are your plugs & wires? At highway speeds in OD, the car felt like it was stuttering, almost like it couldn't make it another mile. Then the plugs/wires were changed, and it ran like new again.

wires have about 15k miles on them. Plugs have about 5k miles on them.

Car has had its full tune up. Only thing i havent changed are the coils.

        I'd say it's a transmission problem.

it could be the tranny but first i would check something else.

im not sure what it is called anymore, but on my 97, there is a lock up device on the torque converter... now there is a sensor on the brake that, makes you push the brake when you put it in drive, it also controlls some part of the lock up on the torque converter.

now when mine was actiing weird doing the exact same thing, with shuttin it off and it would act normal again, this jsut resets the sensor.

my mechanic had to reset the sensor, or recalibrate it, i think he had to use his diagnostic computer but im not sure, but he said that it was out of calibration and he jsut fixed it in like 3 min, now it doesn't act up at all

hope this helps, i would bet money on it that it is this sensor and not your tranny, simply because of the fact that when you shut it off and restart it, it will be fine for a while.

              good luck
