  • Steering fluid, what kind?

    Hi,
I notice that my steering fluid is a little too low and i have a little noise like a ding when i turn the wheels at low speed.

The problem is that i live in france and i don't found the gm fluid. So what type of fluid i could buy.

    Many thanks for your help.

I've always just used the generic powersteering fluid that you find at any autoparts store here in North America. I'm not sure what they have over there in Europe, but I cant see it being that much different.

Get the Valvaline Synthetic blend. They should sell that over there in France.

I don't have valvoline in france. In france we have the brand OPEL. It's a brand of GM, do you think they use the same steering fluid.

I have call the opel shop guy and he tell me that he think it's the same. He ask me if the ps fluid is red, i tell yes but when i check the fluid on my car it's a little red (maybe orange), like my tranny fluid.

The guy tell me i will have to diluate the ps fluid with distilled water.

What is the liter capacity of ps fluid, i want to flush it?

          :bs:
Do not talk to that guy EVER AGAIN!!! Never, ever mix water with petroleum based lubricants.

As for the power stearing fluid:
Specific power stearing fluid is a clear light golden color. When it gets low, some people add transmission fluid to it to top it off. There is nothing wrong with this practice, and would explain why your fluid has color.
If your unsure, and can't find a power stearing fluid that satisfies you, just use Dextron Automatic Transmission Fluid.

Ok, i will go to the opel shop tomorrow and i will see. He tell me that the ps fluid is pure and need to be mixed.

The problem is that i don't drive the car now because i have a little noise when i turn the wheels at idle (like a ding on metal)

When i check the color, on a white paper it's a clear brown (maybe gold). I'm affraid to go with dexron III, someone tell me it's not recommanded.

I use the Valvoline Synthetic stuff, and on the bottle is a GM Spec number that the stuff complies with. When I get home from work tonight I'll get that number off the bottle and post it for you and that way you have at least something to quote or reference in your search.
