How to replace top of dashboard?

I've got a new part to replace the big top sction of the dashboard (the big piece that goes all the way across and touches the windshield).

So how do I install it?

no screws.. just som crazy velco stuff...


i think you have to take off your a pillars first though. .could be wrong..

I did it without removing them....but there are 2 screws holding them in under the t-tops.

remove pillars (easy on t-top/vert cars) 2 screws, and they pop out.

the old piece lifts out, use a putty knife to pry the part closest to you up, and the piece will lift up.

if it is cracked, just break, and it comed out easily.

if it is still good, you have to really wiggle it out of there to get it out in 1 piece.

I had mine out last week, attempting to install a HUD, but there is no room under the dash, without cutting large holes :(

Thanks, guys- I just replaced it.

Take two screws out from top of each A pillar and pry off the A pillars (covers actually).

I had only two small hitches:

1. There are two pegs underneath the dash part for positioning the part. I could not figure out the driver's side - the place where the hole was supposed to be was filled in - in fact it had a peg sticking down from it! Then I realized the filled-in hole/peg was the old broken-off peg from the old cover - Duh. A needle nose pliers got that piece out.

2. The driver's side A pillar cover took a little "convincing" with a rubber mallet to go back into position.

WOO HOO - Car looks great again.

Lastly - I noticed that it almost exclusively the Florida persons who have made posts about replacing this part - definitely a problem from the intense heat/sun here.

I might start using a sun shield in the window now.

When mine cracked I bought a cover on ebay for $39 or something like that. It's real nice carpet with woven-in uv-reflective fibers so it doesn't get hot. Looks pretty good too and its easy to install, just some stick-on velcro. If you like the way it looks then it's a great alternative to replacing that piece.

Yea thats what I was thinking too. However I really like the way it looks now that I've had it for a while. I'd prolly put one on an uncracked one too.

I hear ya , AZ heat will crack dashes quick unless its in the garage all the time, even outside with sun shades the heat inside the car will crack it. Mine cracked after about 4-5 years even with a dash mat on it from day 1 I bought it. I also refuse to pay $239 plus shipping for the original part that will be cracked in 4 years. Dash mat is the best way to go. There is a guy here in PHX that makes stock vinyl covers for $160 but I perfer the dash mats better since there is no glare and I can stick my GPS and radar stuff on the mats, also don't worry about craking.
