im not sure about the sodium levels of the oil, but it's suppose to last 7500 miles instead of 3000, i dont really trust that though.
id just use mobile 1 synthetic or synthetic blend
and continue changing my oil every 3,000 miles like everone has always done.*Matt

Mobil 5000 [regular dino] and 7500 [semi synth] use sodium in their additive packs on purpose. There's nothing wrong with that-- it's just a different way of going about doing things chemically. Both of those oils are just fine, and I have heard of good results from both. A lab that knows that you're using these Mobil products should still be able to detect a coolant leak if there is one.
Redline is a whole different planet oilwise. First of all, there is their regular oil and their racing oil. For most of us, racing oil is NOT what you want. The formulation is really esoteric-- ester based stuff. Some people think it's the holy grail and some don't. It costs twice as much as many of the regular synthetics on the market.
I buy in bulk when there are promotions or good sales. In the last year, for example:
Mobil 1 for $2.75
Pennzoil Platinum for $3.25
German made Castrol Syntec for $3.99
and Mobil 5000 for free!\'00 f-bird 3.8 M5 coupe, pewter metallic
Torsen LSD, Pro 5.0 shifter, Spec stage 1 clutch, Y87 muffler, aftermarket stereo
-more fun than the Oldsmobile it replaced...

The mobil 5000 was a free online promotion.
The German Castrol was a regular sale from AutoZone.
The Pennzoil Platinum was a $15 mastercard giftcard rebate from O'reillys [they processed it FAST too]
The Mobil 1 was a closeout on older "SL" rated oils at AutoZone when they went to the newer "SM" rating
I also had some "buy 3 get 3 free" Mobil 1 coupons from Pepboys for buying a $1 MADD calendar.
I found out about all this on the message boards at www.bobistheoilguy.com

Amsoil, Royal Purple, and Redline are intended for different markets than Mobil 7500 because they cost at least twice as much money per quart in the US.
There are at least 2-3 different versions of Amsoil at the same viscosity rating. Many people have good luck and test results with it, but I think its cost is too high.
I have heard some stories about Royal Purple shearing, but it seems to show GREAT oil analysis results in GM engines like ours. I also find it too expensive.
The best Mobil product currently is Mobil 1 EP. It would compare to these other high-end oils feature-wise, and is generally less expensive than the other names you have mentioned. You can really spend too much of your life overanalyzing this stuff when just about ANY API "SL" or "SM" certified oil will do the trick.
The Mobil lineup from best to worst:
Mobil 1 EP, Mobil 1, Mobil 7500, Mobil 5000, Mobil Drive Clean\'00 f-bird 3.8 M5 coupe, pewter metallic
Torsen LSD, Pro 5.0 shifter, Spec stage 1 clutch, Y87 muffler, aftermarket stereo
-more fun than the Oldsmobile it replaced...
