well i was working on the car and i broke some oil sensor i think. I went to turn the car on for a sec, to see if it was the oil sensor i broke off. It was, got back out the car and there's oil everywhere DOH!!!
so my question is, can i run my car for one day with like 2 quarts of mobile1 5-30 and 3 quarts of castrol gtx 10-30 (what i had sitting around), untill i get time to go to the store and do a complete oil change?
I wouldn't suggest it, what will happen is it will cause an uneven mix and cause your car to not run properly. You may get a milky substance build-up that looks similar to what would happen if you mixed water inside your oil. You can do it, but the oil will not lubricate the engine correctly. It's more like being on the safe side

synthetic blends are a "mixture of additives along with regualr oil". Synthetic belnds relaly dont help that much either, because there is a chance that there could be less synthetics in it in hte first place. The number one reason to go synthetic is from the uniform composition

also, mixing different viscosities along with different grades can harm your engine. The problem is, the starting viscosity will be different. Now the resulting viscosity after your engine heats up to 92-127 (depending on wheher it has synthetics or not), the ending will be the last number. The w stands for "winterized". During the summertime, you should be fine, but I sitll wouldn't reccomend it. It can cause you to burn oil, cause more work on your bearings, and also increase the amount of oil consumed by the engine (which is a very big problem on saturns, not so much our vehicles). This is why car companies are always putting in the grade of oil they wish to use. Ford and honda have switched from 5-30 to 5-20, for they have had to redesign some of their engines to meet sae and api standards. If you mix a 5-20 with a 5-30, you may have problems. I would still say that if you wanted to use 5-30 in a 5-20 reccomended engine, that you should be fine. It's all on what you trust. I'm bad about switching from 5-30 to 10-30. I use 5-30 during the summer and 10-30 during the winter, which also isn't good for the engine. I've learned that during the summer though, that the oil is thinner to being with and it relieves some of the pressure on the engine. I also get better gas mileage. It's something that you could go all day explaining.

it'll be fine... its the same as my dad putting oil in his truck (since its leaking oil) and filling it up with the cheapest oil he can find at the store. He's done that for almost 6 months and no problems.

it's different for different cars, you'll get better gas mileage in some cases, for the oil will flow through the engine better, since it will be thinner. On the other side, the tensile strength will be greatly sacrificed, which could lead to irregular performance

ive always heard mixing oils is a very bad idea...i dont know but i wouldnt risk it... just have a buddy go buy oil from somewhere, or have him pick you up to go get some. i wouldnt risk it, even for a day. probably wouldnt hurt but im not one to take risks when it comes to my car.
so everyone knows, its OK to mix 30s with 30s, but not ok to mix any other weights, no matter what. I still wouldn't mix 30s tho just IMO
