  • Weird humming noise?

I have a 98 Camaro and in the past month I have noticed a slight humming noise coming from the rear. When I pop the hatch and put my head in the little trunk space, its pretty loud, and on the outside of the car you can also hear it. Is this my fuel pump? I have never had any codes pop up, so I dont know what it is and it really bugs me. Sometimes you can hear it over the radio when driving down the road if the radio is just at a low level. Please help!

I would suspect the fuel pump as being the source of that noise.
I have heard they get louder toward the end of their lifespan.
If you haven't in the last year, I'd replace the fuel filter [under the car] in the hopes that the thing would live a while longer before kicking the bucket. Fuel filter is cheap. Fuel pump is REALLY expensive and takes a LOT of effort [or cutting into the trunk] to change...

Turn car off. Turn ignition to ON. Listen for sound.

You should hear the fuel pump for 2 or 3 seconds after turning the ignition on, then it should go away. If that's the same sound you hear, then that's it.

        its the fuel pump.

just dont worry about it, we put a new fuel pump in our impala that had the same problem, and it still didnt work.

mabey some fuel system cleaner could help? the pump may be cloged somewhat, put some sea foam in there, its worth a shot and cheaper than buying a fuel pump.

replace the fuel filter and see if it goes away. its cheap and it might make it go away. i had to replace the filter and pump so it was either one and the sound it gone in my car. go with the filter first ;)

Had my garage check the fuel pressure and its running normal, if not a little better than normal. Changed the fuel filter and he said its fine and not to worry about it. You cant really hear it unless the radio is off anymore, so its alright, but thanks!
