Is it normal to smell burnt oil, maybe?

Normal every day driving, it's fine... but if I decide to gun it, petal to the metal, I end up being followed with a burnt oil smell, maybe it's not oil, I don't know what the smell is exactly. The service road about 1/4 mile from my house is where I punch it occasionally. I get up to 70 tops, usually no higher than 60, and then it's time for my turn into my neighborhood... when I get home, I can smell the smell. I'm not sure if it's oil, or gasoline... I really have no clue. Is this normal?

Thanks for answering the obvious question, is there a certain reason as to why this would happen, and if so, what is it?

it could possibly be brakes if your not familiar with that smell, or possibly burning clutch?.. if its a 5spd

It's an autommatic, and I just replaced break pads, so not sure. I think it's oil or something, not sure.

if you,ve ever been behind someone on the highway and they floor it, you can usually smell a burnt smell from the exhaust, this can be with a new car as well as one with 100 thousand miles on it, its normal for that. but to be sure, after you get home , open the hood and take a whiff for the burnt smell, try to follow the smell in the engine to see where it may be comeing from, and dont burn yourself damnit. if you feel like it, get under the car and inspect your exhaust pipes for burnt oil on them.

yeah it really could be quite a few things,, maybe like Vroom Chirp says it may be dripping oil on the pipe or possibly the new brakes but i second him.. after you smell it when you get home id try and trace the burning smell.

as long as your car is running good i would not worry about it.

It could be your valve covers leaking. On one of my old cars, when the valve cover gasket was leaking, I could watch the oil seeping out when I would rev the engine. It may be dripping on the manifolds or on the Y pipe if it's leaking in the back. When the engine is cool you could try feeling around in the back for wet oil. My current winter beater leaks from the valve cover, and I get that smell once in a while.

Check for oil leaking on the Y-pipe, this is the most likely place for your car to be leaking oil.

dude i smell that smell u smell everytime after i drive my car. i dont worry about it. i have an oil leak (small) and i romp it daily, then engine is running fine. i cant figurew the smell out i dont worry about it. imean what could i really do. it does what it wants

LOL "IT DOES WHAT IT WANTS." Its just the engine getting a bit hotter then normal and oil buring off it, our cars are famus for leaks. ITs nonthing to worry about, till you see fire. kidding about the fire.
