my friend has a 98 maro but he has the 97 engine. is this common? i didnt think so, but i have seen it with my own eyes
he is stock and for some reason we where looking under his hood. first thing i notice is the throttle body and i instantly look at his lights. 97 throttle body 98+ style headlights. does he have a rarity?
6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.
my car is a 98 but was my in 8/97 so maybe they use the 97 motors in the early 98s, but I have the air box in the front. and the 98s have the angled throttle body too.

I have never heard of this, BUT I have heard of people converting the front end from a 97 style to that of a 98. THere's some guy on cardomain that I saw did it, maybe here too.

1998 was the last year the TB was angled. They changed it to a strait TB in 99. Also in 99 they changed the throttle to electronic control vs the cable throttle.
Your friends car is normal for a 98. I have the same thing...

I'm the guy Nino was talkin about with the '98. Hey Nino - the administration finally approved my membership.
To tell you the truth, while I don't care for an angled throttle body, I do wish to retain a cable operated throttle cam. So I guess I am stuck with it.
Anyone noticed a gain or loss at the dynomometer between a straight and angled throttle body? Seems to me that the differance if any would be negligable, indicating GM only did so to save parts and use the LS1 lid on the V6, there-by cutting back on costs. The same with drive-by-wire throttle. I haven't been to the dyno just yet, but I have never lossed to another stock V6 F-body or Mustang for that matter. I don't think I am lucky, or neccesarily the better driver (could be?) but, I haven't seen a differance in pulling power going up against a '99+ 3.8L
Anyway, hello to the rest of the board. Ny names' Blig, and I'm getting into the V6 as a performer daily driver while I am restoring a '79 Z28 to run nine seconds, and a '72 Mustang to go 12 seconds. That is, until I get a hold of an SS, then the V6 is getting sold. Hopefully by then I'll have hit 14 flat as a bare minimum, and quite possibly high 12's.
Not familliar with the 3800 series II specifically other than the work I've already done on it. But I am very knoweledgable of the 3800 series I engine, which I am working on in the garage. And of course any small block or big block Chevy or Ford. Not to say I can't help out on any motor, just that those I can assemble 'eyes closed'
Hope to hear back from all you.
