i think i new a new starter or solenoid, can you change out one or the other? and would a new starter mess with the remote start application?

I know on older cars you could just replace the solenoid, but on the newer I think you need the whole unit.

Im sure you could find a way to replace one without the other, but it is sold at auto parts stores as a complete unit (solenoid&motor), so it would require some creativity. I also do not see how replacing any part with and equivalent part would cause problems with your remote start.

funny story.. i'm standing behind a older guy at the mom/pop shop. He asks for solenoid for his old hotrod. Kid behind the counter says he can order it... for 70 bucks or just sell him a whole starter for 60.

Anyone see something wrong with this??

I hope he was smart enough to go with the whole starter.

You need to replace the starter and solenoid as one unit.

Sounds different how? Are you getting any grinding or screeching? Starters do need to be shimmed, you know.
