  • No crank, no start (again)

    dammit, its happening agian...

a few months ago I went to Windsor, Canadia to drink (drinking age is 19) and the next day the damn thing wouldnt start. Electronics all worked. Lights, stereo, everything. Security light stayed on tho. Towed it to a dealership and they replaced the key cylinder and key. drove it home and was happy.

yesterday it started acting up again. I stick the key in, the radio turns on, the lights turn on, everything works, but when i turn the key to start, the needles drop (like usual) the radio plays, the car is alive, but the engine WILL NOT crank. The worst part is that its intermittant. No pattern to when it will happen and when it wont. One time i just waited 10 mins and it started agian. another time i turned the key on and off like 10 times and it kicked over. The last time i went on a tirade and screamed obsenities at it and it kicked over. Once started it runs fine but sometimes it just kind of stares back at me....

its as if i were to try to start it when the car is in drive or something. I suspect the shift switch (or whatever its called) but i have no idea where the hell its located. Any ideas?

    PLEASE HELP!!!

Re: No crank, no start (again)

Since it's intermittent and stuff, I'd start checking wires. The Park switch is in the console. I think I remember playing with it when I had to change out my shift cable. Also, it could be the chip in the key. If you have a spare key try that. Or it could be on the chip reader side in the ignition.

Re: No crank, no start (again)

i hate it when people dont post up the results of their diagnostics, so maybe i'll start a trend....

its the starter solenoid. I found that i could only start the car if the engine was cold, which points 6 ways to sunday that its that solenoid. a different thread said that it can only be replaced w/ the starter as one unit. i;m switching it out today so we'll see but i'm 99% sure thats what it is. in the meantime, i've been buying bags of ice to cool the damn thing off haha
