• rough idle

I have been experincing a rough idle the last few days. I just got HPT and in the egine diagnostic section under general it shows a TPS p1514 and also gives a table with values.

I had an SES light removed the p1514 code and it has not come back on. The car drives fine just idles bad, it actually idles better when I turn the AC on.

The car is not charged right know (being rebuilt)and hasn't been for about a month. This problem started about 2 weeks after I removed it.

Can I just turn the idle up a little with HPT or is this something that should be addressed soon?

    Any ideas or suggestions.

you may want to take the throttle body off the car and clean it really good with carb cleaner, and a small brush and work the valve open and shut a few times to make sure every thing is clean. MAKE SURE BEFORE YOU TAKE IT OFF YOU HAVE THE NEW GASKET, OR IT WILL LEAK COOLANT. when i had my 99 this totally fixed the problem.

Yes, thats happnend to me too, but if this happend to him is ac would be all screwed up and not blowing out the top vents. He says it runs better with the ac on, and says nonthing about it blowing diffrently. This leads me to beleve its not a vaccum problem.

cough cough ,tb cleaner, cough ,not carb cleaner, cough. Just pop the screen and spray in while having it opened up a little. Stay away from the sensor.

LOL , for him to open it he has to have the car running and foot on the gas. He is drive by wire. I didnt even think about tb cleaner.

If its this bad i recommend taking it off as not to suck this crap into the engine.

Thanks for the replies. I will have to wait for the weekend to mess with the TB. Strange though this morning I filled the tank with premium and added fuel injection cleaner and it idled a little better than it was. Another thing, Last night I went out to move my car into a different spot and when I got out it smelled like the car was running rich.

First off, leave the idle screw alone. I learned this the hard way! It is factory-set and messing with it will only cause more probs.

IF you are tearing your TB down to clean it, remove all sensors and soak the TB's shell in a bucket with warm water and a cup of degreaser. After soaking it for about 1/2 hour, take a toothbrush and scrub the insides of the TB to remove the carbon buildup. Rinse with water, let dry...of course.

Don't "F..." with the MAF sensor! The little wire that reads the incoming air will crack/break at the slightest touch. This is why you never spray TB cleaner directly into the TB when the car is running. Those who have and gotten away with it before, you got lucky!

You can clean the IAC sensor with the degreasing solution too, but don't soak it like the TB's Shell. Just dip the metal end into the cleaner for a minute or two and then scrub it with the toothbrush. The IAC seems to catch most of the carbon buildup, and it'll need a good cleaning...Trust Me!

He does not have an idle adjustment screw. He also doesnt have an iac. On my old 99 there was no way to adjust it. And do not soak it! You have a fully eletronic tb,, you can not fully dissassimble it, and it will totally destroy the eletronics inside of it if you soak it.

My apologies then. I thought the 99+ had those sensors, and I thought it could be disassembled.
