  • qiuck question about hooking up an air/fuel gauge

    i know you have to hook it up to an o2 sensor, but i was wondering. i have the pacesetter headers and there is an o2 sensor hole in front of the cat and it came w/ a thing to plug it. i was wondering, could i go buy a new sensor and put it in that and then hook up the guage to that? i figure it would be better to do it that way then on one i really need and mess it up and send wrong signals to my computer. or should i get it as close to the engine as possible to get the best readings? is that right? would it get better readings closer to the engine?

    You could use that one. When you buy and O2 sensor for it, get one from a 93 3.4L V6. It is a single wire O2 and will be a lot cheaper (about $21) than the 4-wire O2s that they are using now. Plus, then you will only have one wire and won't have a bulky harness.

      I'm thinking of hooking up a guage as well, but have been told the o2's on our cars aren't really all that accurate...

      Opinions?

      ps...dont' mean to sabotage your thread, but i think it's relevant.

            yup, thats how I hooked mine up(single wire), just a 20$ bosch sensor, I had to get a new bung welded before my cat though...is this hole on just one side, or at the Y-pipe???...one side would give you improper readings...only problem with the single wire sensor is it's not heated and will take a little bit before you get readings from it [img]smile.gif[/img]

              its at the y-pipe. after both sides have come together. yeah, i know it wont give good reading until warm up

                You could also get a 3-wire O2 sensor from Autozone (Bosch part #63077). One wire is a date wire, one is a positive 12V wire and the other is a ground. The sensor has a heater built into it. You will also need the GM wiring harness for a clean installation. I have the number for it somewhere so if you decide to go this route, let me know. This would heat the sensor up right away and will give a more accurate reading than the single wire O2 sensor.
