  • Front end noise - Frustrating problem

I'm checking to see if I'm correct in my thoughts on this one....

Just changed a sealed wheel bearing hub assembly in one of my vehicles. I'm still hearing a wierd noise from that corner of the vehicle, so I took it apart again. Turns out the wheel bearing is leaking grease from both the front and the rear of the bearing. Now, I'm thinking that since its leaking grease, it means the bearing itself is bad. Course, I wasnt sure if this was just something that happens when these type of bearings initially break in. There is no discernable play in the bearing, but I suspect this is the source of my frustration.

Anyone have any thoughts before I tear it apart again?

    BACKGROUND OF THE PROBLEM:

For anyone curious... the noise is a speed sensitive clunking noise. Only occurs after driving for 10-15 minutes, and only occurs at low speeds (below 25 mph).

    Vehicle is a 95 Jeep Cherokee 4wd.

Noise is from the driver side front.

    Parts I've changed:
front wheel bearing hub assemblies - both sides
front brake pads and rotors - both sides
    front passenger side caliper
    wheel joints - both sides
    axle shafts - both sides
new differential fluid - front and rear
    removed front drive shaft
rear wheel bearings and seals - both sides
new u joints - rear shaft
rotated tires - noise did not move with any of the tires
