  • 2001 idle air control location

I have an 01 Firbird that has an idle problem. It seems to be too low but does not die when in gear. The engine starts right up when cold but after sitting for a few minutes it doe not want to start on the first try but usually does on the second try. I suspect a dirty idle air control valve. My repair book only covers 93-98 3800's. I cannot locate where the IAC is on my engine. It is not in the same location as what my book shows for the 98 models. My engine has the the airbox in front like the v-8 models. I have seen pictures of the replacement IAC for my 01 but I can find no sensor that looks like that. I have identified all of the other sensors except one right under the throttle body but it appears to be a screw in sensor. Other than the idle problem the car runs great, no other problems off idle or high speed. Car has onlky 50K on it. Any ideas as to where this IAC is located?? Thanks.

it should be on the throttle body somewhere...its like 2 bolts to take off and an electrical plug... shouldnt take too long and the part isnt much money.... also i had the same problem... check your EGR valve... does the car throw any codes?

did you not read the top? it doesnt include 99-02

im about 99% sure you dont have one. it should be controled by the pcm.

Re: 2001 idle air control location

Thanks for your input. The computer has not thrown a code yet. I am pretty sure I do not have an IAC as there is no 2 bolt sensor that I can find. My MAF is mounted on top of the TB. The only possible other location is under the TB but this sensor is a screw in sensor. I called the local GM dealer and he said he needed a VIN before searching for the correct IAC, he said that some of them are screw in. While checking the MAP sensor I pulled one of the vacuum lines to it and gas squirted out of it so am not sure what that is all about?? I am going to borrow a friend's scanner and see if there is any stored codes. Thanks for your help.

gas came out of the vacuum line? i dont think that was the MAP... the MAP is Manifold Absolute Pressure it really doesnt have anything to do with gas...

Re: 2001 idle air control location

Gas comming out of a vacuum line usually means a bad fuel pressure regulator. Pull the vacuum line off of that while the car is running and see if gas cames out of it.

Did you try cleaning the Throttle Body for the idle problem? Not sure on that year but mechanical linkage TB's have an idle screw.

Re: 2001 idle air control location

The vacuum line was definately from the MAP sensor has Part # 09359409 and pbtgf30 stamped on it. Will try disconnect and see what happens. Delco does not list an IAC valve for the 99 up Firebirds so that must be the year the drive by wire set up came on the firebirds. Autozone and Checkers list the IAC all the way up to 2002 so this is in error. Delco # for 95-98 is ac 217-427 or 17112929. Thanks for your replies. Will report back on what I find.
