I don't think a poll is really going to help you. Google some articles and see what the experts have to say and make an informed decision that way.

fyi, this debate has been going for a LONG time.

      it cant hurt?

yes, it definitely can.. think about it, as your engine wears down dirt takes up the worn down spots.. use engine cleaner, and the dirt goes away, now you have metal to metal contact, which wears it down even more.

        :bs:

Why don't you pour sand in your engine. By your logic it will run better.

Just to clarify your point, it wont "hurt" your engine, but it may cause leaks, which can cause problems toa rrise

I also use AMSOIL engine flush, and only Mobil 1 filters. It's not cheap - my oil changes cost over $100. But I think it's worth it.
You could buy a second/new engine for that kind of money after a couple years.

no, i agree that its worth the money for a good oil change. I changed my brothers oil (93 camaro) and we put in a k&N gold class filter, and 4 quarts of royal purple, and it may have cost over 50$ but it actually made his car run alot better. His car would always run with high rpms, but after the oil change it was down to normal and the car ran very smoothly. I think oil is one of the most important things for our cars, which is why i change it very frequently and am now hoping to go to synthetic.

its not BS, and you are not understanding my point.

You guys are nuts. Its like compairing orange Gatorade and orange juice. If you drink Gatorade all the time and then start drinking OJ your belly is not going to pop. If you switch to synth and develop a leak somewhere then its time to change the gasket. I dont know about you guys but i like to seal my motor with good gaskets not burnt oil gunk....

Re: I want to switch to synthetic

I agree with Ace. oil doesn't cause leaks, bad gaskets do. Some synthetics aid in removing despoits from your engine. Once those deposits near the gaskets are gone, any area where the gasket is not sealing well will develop a leak.

I hope you don't have dirt in your engine. Dirt is the biggest enemy for an engine. If your have dirt running through your engine, your bearings will be toast, not to mention your cylinders will be scratched. The cleaner the engine the better. Your cranks/rods etc actually ride on a thin coating of oil, not the bearing itself. How much oil they ride on depends on how the bearing clearances were set. If you get dirt in there, scratches develop then its rebuild time. Also, dirt can clog the little oil holes which lubricate the bearings etc Once you lose oil presuure, metal to metal contact and then they become one.

I agree with you 100%. But not everyone has the time/money/experience to change a rear main on a car with 150K miles. Dino oil has been in use for a long time, it's not evil.

good point, we cant forget that dino oil is not actually BAD for our cars, its just not as good as synthetic. The problems that i may encounter by switching to synthetic could outweigh the positives. Using the best dino oil and filter, and changing it religiously is probably what i will continue doing.

yes, my car runs anywhere from around 40psi to 65psi

That was how I operated until my rebuild.
