• Fuel Stabilizer

I am looking to put a fuel stabilizer in my with my full tank of fuel because my car is going to be sitting for a couple of months while I am away at school. I have found many fuel stabilizers but none that are for fuel injected cars and that are oxygen sensor safe. Do they make any fuel stabilizers that are for fuel injected cars and 02 sensor safe? If so, does anyone know the name of any?

I wouldnt worry about it....if it was mine i would not use any. It does need to be drive to keep the seals wet and keep oil and tires moving. Best thing to do is have someone start it up once a month and drive it a mile or so.

I've heard good things abut Sta-bil, but never used it myself.

yea I have everything else covered, it is just the fuel stabilizer I was questioning. I just didnt want to screw up my new cat but I guess I could give it a try.

For 2 months, I wouldn't bother using fuel stabilizer. The gas won't go bad that fast.

Bad gas is a bad thing, but fuel additives tend to leave a residue on your spark plugs.

I stored a car for 5 months once-- here's my checklist:
-Fill gas tank
-add fuel stabilizer
-change oil [unless it's pretty new, < 1,000 miles]
-inflate tires about 5 psi higher than normal
-wash car
-put an inexpensive cover on it [if not in a closed garage]
-unhook negative battery cable [unlock your stock radio first!]
-cover exhaust outlet [don't want any nests in there]
\'00 f-bird 3.8 M5 coupe, pewter metallic
Torsen LSD, Pro 5.0 shifter, Spec stage 1 clutch, Y87 muffler, aftermarket stereo
-more fun than the Oldsmobile it replaced...

I just go out and run the car every month. Drive it around my driveway and park it again.

If you don't want to do that, do what terminaldegree said, but wax the car and get an expensive cover.

First off gas does not go bad in a year, it will leave deposits if it sits in a carb for a few months, but the gas its self is not bad. Sta-bil is a great product and i use it in small engines that will sit for months at a time. On our farm we have a 500 gallon gas, 500 gallon diesel tanks. Both will last us about a year. We have had these tanks for seveal years now and we have never put any addatives in them. I can go right now and fill your gas tank up and you will NOT be able to tell the diffrence, unless of course you are running some type of high compression engine...then maybe. I a really good idea jest to have someone run the car every month. We have an 84 silverado 4x4 with 50k on it, its in near new condition. We dont use it very much and one time it sat for about 3+ months with out moving. It started right up, but a few miles down the road the rear-end seal blew out, and the transmission rear seal blew. Luck we only went a few miles and were able do drive it back ok. but then too the seals were over 21 years old.

should be fine for a few months if you worried a bit just put some 90+ ocatane in it and drop a can of seafoam in it. its not really an attitive but a cleaner, that will help burn the **** out when you store a vehicle, and the higher octane fuel does store a bit better. but i wouldn't worry too much.
