  • Coolant Leak from ???

Anyone know the leak or experienced it?

I'm driving and noticed the usual coolant smell associated with a leak. Pull into a BP and popped the hood. There's a leak, but from a unsual source I've never read about.

The samiliar 3.8 heater core to/return hoses.

Leak is from this connection here. Nothing impressive, just dripping.

Here's a better view of the issue area.

Took a picture from below and there are no cracks from both the return and connector. I'm assuming the issue lies more with an gasket or o-ring.

    Can anyone give insight.

Actually...got some RTV. I'm inclined to fix it correctly.

Clean Camaro by the way, Tom.

Its the plastic elbows... they commonly break...

I was just about to post, does anyone know where to get replacement ones...

To replace properly... drain coolant, pull the belt tensionar assembly.

this happened to me 2 days ago. its a bypass valve, dont go the bul**** way and jb weld it, cause i did at first and then it completely shattered and empied my cooling system completely, go to the dealership, dealer only part, and it cost 10$, take off the belt and the alternator and the water pump, then its simple

btw bought both elbows(I'd buy them both) Neither of mine were broken, but they fell apart under slight movement, when I pulled my intake.

One was ~$11, other was ~$5, total spent $18.XX for both = tax.

Yes I would replace them both. One of them shattered on mine and it truly dumped all my coolant. It happened so quickly that I realized something was wrong when I saw the temp needle peg at the 260.

yeah defintiely when you do it...

Pull the alternaotr, then the belt tensionor. Just be real careful, not to break off the tip into the lower intake manifold, it was a pain get off and I had removed the lower intake manifold. Would have been near impossible with the lower still in the car(mine broke, then fell in)

                      Re: Coolant Leak from ???

Fix the leak...simple 20 minute job. The alternator was a SOB to get line up...other than that. Easy-greasy. Apparently, the elbow that goes under the intake manifold was about to give. I pulled it and it fell apart in my hands. Plastic...gotta love it.

                      $13 bucks for both elbows.
