  • Water in oil?

Hello, im posting this for my friend under his name since he does not have the internet at his house at the moment.

The car in question is a 99 Camaro V6, fully built (rods, pistons, cam, head, crankshaft, ect ect), and recently he has been having some bogging issues. He was unsure if it was bogging because of the gas being low (near E) or something else.

Today he called me and told me that there were water traces in the oil pan, and asked I hop online to look around and see what can be done about it, what possible causes are, and what good prevention methods are. Im not sure how much water was mixed with the oil, but as we all know water in oil is bad period.

What things should he look for to be the cause?
What does he need to do to his engine now that watery oil has been through it?
    Will this permanently harm/affect anything?

    Re: Water in oil?

he needs to see what it is...

    2 main options...
    -intake manifold gasket
    -head gasket

compression test will determine head gasket. If he has HPtuners seeif he is getting any misfires.

Okay, I have a compression tester we can use on his car.

What should his compression read in the cylinders?

And IF the compression tests out, then its not the head gasket, right? So how would we test for the intake manifold gasket?

And also, still wondering what we should do next (besides an oil change). I read online something like using diesel oil for 15 minutes then changing again, is this necessary?

compression test it, no clue what it should be but probalby over 120psi... but no matter what all the cylinders should be around the same.

Intake manifold, not really sure. I knew it was mine, I was getting water in the cylinders and scanned and saw I had misfires on both sides of the motor, middle cylinders.

So did you just replace the gasket after that and everything was fine?

http://autos.yahoo.com/maintain/repa...ques057_1.html This is kinda a good little bit of information for you and your friend. You can start with that. When you change the oil, get some oil system treatment (whatever you can find). Anything to help remove any kind of water/coolant from your oiling system. I've heard of people using kerosene before, never diesel. When the intake gasket blew in dads truck, we used some kerosene, and then some oil addatives, and then a fresh change. I think we changed the oil 3 times in a 500-800 mile period, till we were comfortable with it.
