    The theory behind it is that the gas in the tank helps to cool the pump. When you run your tank to E the pump is no longer submerged in the fuel.

      yeah the fuel the pump is submerged in and the fuel flowing through it are supposed to cool the thing down. When you buy a pump for our cars you get the entire assembly not just a pump which is one of the reasons its' so expensive.

      I keep hearing all these horror stories about how hard it is to change the pump or cutting holes in the floor. My roomate changed the pump in a 96 and the hardest part for him was dealing with the exhaust. The muffler was connected to the over axle pipe with a clamp that crimped the pipe and made it difficult to get off.
      He did the whole thing with the car on the ground in an afternoon and that was with having to make a run to a buddies to pick up a hacksaw.

        if you cut a hole in the tank, how do you stop gas fumes and **** from coming in??

        also, once you cut the hole, does the fuel pump just simply pull out or what?

          You do not cut a hole in the tank. If you use the access panel method you cut a hole in the floor of your rear hatch area in order to access the top of the tank.

          Once you have accessed the tank the pump and assembly can be removed from the tank by twisting it and lifting it out.

          If you do not want to use the access panel method you will need to drop the exhaust and drop the fuel tank in order to access the pump.

            lol, you dont cut a hole in the tank, there is already a hole there, it should turn and pop right out.

            you cut the hole in the car's sheet metal to get access to the tank

                Do it yourself and save money.

                I did a on 9/11/2007 in a couple hours on the side of the road.

                My Pump went 242K before it decided to call it quits.

                Total cost was $375...returned the Dremel back to Wal-mart after I was done. =)

                  hmm... is the fuel sending unit included in that whole bracket assembly?

                  I need a new sending unit... maybe ill just buy that and a walbro..

                    Fuel pump on my 2002 died at 75k.

                    $900 for replacement parts and dealer install.

                    Your price is about right.
