    im having my engien that was on a 97 a4.. being put into a 97 m5.. so yes tranny and whatnot should be no problem.. however idk about different years.. it hink the harnesses are slightly different on the years.
    WE CAN REBUILD IT, WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY

      yep direct bolt up...

      you will have to swap the flywheel over and remove the flexplate.

            he can reuse the flywheel of the 5-speed motor, everything that he needs is there it is a direct swap,

            take what you need off of the 98 motor and put it on the 97 motor....shouln'd be much except for a flywheel and clutch, don't forget to get a pilot shaft bearing.
