also be careful of the infamous plastic elbow that is a 90* that comes off the tensioner assembly into the intake manifold. Actually a better bet is just go to dealer or pep boys and get the elbow. I've gotten this part from both places and can tell you autozone, advance auto, and napa do NOT carry this part. Its less than 5 bucks for the part both places.
110 for a new belt!!! i would never go there again if they are going to charge you that much. It takes all of 3 minutes to switch a belt.
and i dont really know how it could go bad, how many miles do you have on your car? i have never heard of someone's tentioner going bad.
just get a 15mm socket put it on the tentioner and see if you can adjust the belt
tensioners do go bad... ive heard several times where they go bad... and experienced them going bad
What kind of car is this going on? For reference, on a 99 Camaro, I'm seeing $59.98 for a Dayco Tensioner Assembly and $92.99 for a Goodyear Tensioner Assembly on Advance Auto's website. See: www.partsamerica.com
Tensioner pullies, or idler pullies, range from $10.99 to $21.68.
And the serpentine belt starts at $16.99 and go up to $29.98.
My 17 dollar serp belt is still holding up fine 4 years later.

yes definately get the plastic elbows, 98 should have two. i did mine about a month ago, really simple. it is right there on the front and only like 5 bolts. be careful when your putting on the plastic elbows not to pinch an o ring, maybe put a little gms on it. $180 for the tesioner asmbley is right, the new belts from gm are only like $60.

95redslp, crushedout -- Thanks. I can wait. I'm not driving much. Why would pepboys charge 180$ for the part and then add on labor whereas other vendors sell it for a fraction of the price?
Hey everyone! I've been trying to remove my transmission for two days now! I need to replace the clutch. Only thing I've got left holding the transmission...
