I am having some really odd problems with my car lately. To give a little backround info the car is a 98 Camaro v6 Heads/Cam with a built bottom end. About a year ago I had the car heat up to the point it died (later found out fan was not turning on) anyhow afterwards I let the engine cool and started it up, seemed pretty solid so I drove it home. After finding the fan was not turning on, I noticed my radiator was very low and I checked the overfill jug to find it had some of that chocolate milk colored slugey ****. Flushed the radiator out, changed the oil, no signs of coolant in the oil at that time. This is almost exactly a year ago to date. The car has leaked coolant since, but it has never had any traces of coolant in the oil with fresh oil and filter every 2,500 miles. Now, earlier this week I was noticing my rpms were acting very odd, normally I idle at 1100 right on but my car was jumping from 800-1200 at idle idling faster than normal. By the time I turned around to head back home, the car was hesitant while attempting to accelerate slowly but once I was up to speed it seemed to maintain it. The car sounds pretty bad at idle, its missing pretty bad. I popped the drain plug to inspect the oil and im getting antifreeze in it. I can see this chocolate milk colored water sitting in my valve cover looking in through the oil cap. The car has since been towed to a shop but will not be diagnosed until monday. What really confuses me is I am not getting any noticable white smoke out of my exhaust which everyone seems to have when the gasket goes. Any ideas? Trying to see what I am looking at here. Obviously something needs replaced, im just hoping its not the block, and it would be nice if it wasn't the heads either.

Head Gasket? Antifreeze in oil.

Re: Head Gasket? Antifreeze in oil.
Head gasket is possible. If coolant is getting into the oil, then you wouldn't have white smoke in the exhaust. That will happen if coolant is leaking into the combustion chamber via the intake valve. Which is also a symptom of a blown head gasket. Doesn't always happen, though.'99 Mountaineer AWD 5.0 - 4300K HID, Some Bolt-ons

Re: Head Gasket? Antifreeze in oil.
I never had my car overheat so the problem I had may be different than yours, but then again after a year your overheating may be unassociated with your current problem. So I will tell you anyway. Might help :dunno: .
Last few months I had been having some problems with my car that I had not been able to track down. Losing coolant and not being able to find where it is going (no dripping outside, no residue in the oil, and didn't seem to be burning it) and loss of power (not a dramatic loss but still noticeable). Well last week things to finally came to a head, because all of the sudden I had coolant in the oil and was buring coolant as well. Turned out to be my intake plenum gasket. The gasket had warped starting around the coolant passage and eventually had warped the gasket untill it allowed coolant to pour into cylinder 1 and allowing a bit into cyinder 3 as well. I changed the intake manifold gasket as well, not sure if it needed it, but I figured I might as well. Car drives great now.
It could be a head gasket, a compression test would let you know. If that checks out, my vote is for pulling the intake plenum and see what that gasket looks like.
