When I floor it while driving and rev the engine to about 5k, shortly after, I get a weird smell in the cab. Smells kinda like exhaust and transmission fluid, more or less. What is this? Anyone else experience this as well?

Re: What's that smell?
Okay, to all of these replies so far:
kristen: This can be with the windows open or closed. Doesn't matter. I don't run my heater unless it's cold, which it's starting to get there. I don't have AC, seeing as the clutch on the compressor blew out. No smoke anywhere.
josh98bird: My car is an auto 93 3.4 Camaro.
zlexiss: Thanks! :D
Black98FiveSpeed: It's an automatic.
Meatyshells: perhaps, but I swear I smell transmission fluid. I had to crawl up under the car to tighten down the nut on the starter solenoid and I looked at the transmission pan. It was all greasy looking from the fluid. :P Guess it's time to put in that filter and gasket. Could I be burning tranny fluid? I went to check my fluid and I was a little low, but I noticed that it was a little blackish looking.Originally posted by LETZRIDEI've never touched a rear end before

Re: What's that smell?
im guessing something in your trasmission is getting roasted.
Low tranny fluid + black isnt very good.

Re: What's that smell?
trans fluid smell or burnt engine oil smell? Usually people have rear main seal leaks and it leaks onto the ypipe and burns. makes a nice burnt oil smell. :)

Re: What's that smell?
wouldn't cause smoke if it was just some drops on the ypipe, mine drops a little and at stop lights I can smell the burnt oil

Originally posted by turbohead2332Yeah no smoke, though I am roasting oil on the block. I have a gasket leak, though I'm not sure exactly where. Valve cover gasket? Still no smoke, though. What does burnt tranny fluid smell like?
and if your fluid is gettin a little black, it is definitely time to change that trans screen and fluid.
sounds like the smell is a combination of you burning off oil on the exhaust, and a leak from somewhere too (possibly trans pan gasket/loose bolts?)Phill

95 camaro... need money for turbo project...
94 S10 Blazer - winter beater - infinity system to be installed soon

\"The man who says it cant be done should not interrupt the man doing it...\"
