  • something i've always wondered about..

if i was gonna convert a car with a automatic transmission to a manual transmission. how do u know where to put the clutch pedal? does it have to be in an exact location for it to work right. do they just saw a hole next to the brake pedal? how hard is it to do? i know how to drop the transmission in and all. but the pedal thing has always had me confused

if the pedal thing confuses you... youll really enjoy the master cylinder, slave cylinder, and bleeding procedure. its not a simple swap, but not that difficult either. best bet is to find a donor car, take pics of where everything is mounted and then yank the parts.

if its a hydraulic clutch really you could mount it anywhere you wanted, it dosent matter. so long as the fluid gets compressed the slave cylinder will disengage the clutch. best spot for the pedal though is right on the other side of the firewall from the master cylinder ;)

if its a mechanical linkage setup thats a different story. what application are you wondering about?

i swapped my auto for a manual.
On my car all you do is take out the pedals.
On auto cars, the brake pedal is by itself Seperate from the gas pedal.
On manual cars, the brake and clutch pedal are connected.

All you have to do is take out your old pedals amd put in the new ones.

done basically the same swap in my friends mustang. it was a really easy swap. it was done within the day. but we had a hoist and everything there. just take your time. it is harder to diagnose problems later than just do it right the first time.
