Anyone ever have oil come out of an oil pressure sensor before? Seems mine sprung a leak. I was just wondering if this was common or what?

Yeah, I just never heard of it beforeand thought it was weird. I mean it was leaking out the wire connection, not the end that goes in to the oil filter housing.

If it happens again, I'm putting a bolt in it. LOL

same thing happened to me. I literally lost 6 quarts of oil and my oil pressure dropped to 0, [in about 30 minutes of driving] at which point I checked my engine, saw the problem and switched it out.

            Re: Oil Leak

Wow, mine wasn't that bad. I had a small leak from a valve cover, and thought that was what the oil was from. After I swapped out the valve cover gaskets and cleaned up the area I noticed it dripping down the oil filter, that lead me to the sensor.

6 qts? Geez. I hope mine doesn't turn in to a gusher on the way home tonight. I had to order the sensor and I pick it up on the way home.

Yeah, well mine was cracked over half the way around. I have no idea why it happened, but it happened extremely fast (the day before the car was fine) I think mine was a little more extreme than most cases. I'm just glad the 3800 is so beastly, otherwise I wouldn't doubt my engine could have died right then and there. Good news is it's an easy swap, takes 5 minutes if that.

Oh, you have the 3.8... where is it on your car? Isn't your oil filter on the front of the engine at the bottom?

On the 3.4 there's a goose neck that comes out from the block that you put the filter on, and the sensor goes in the goose neck. Then there's a heat shield that goes over it. So it's pretty hidden if anything got flung up under the car. If yours is on the front of the engine I could see how something might hit it.

                  Re: Oil Leak

Ah, I forgot you had a 3.4. My pressure sensor is right on the front of the engine about midway up, right above the filter which also is right in the front of the engine. Well it shouldn't be too hard to replace regardless. I suppose something could have hit it, but i just don't know how something could fly up and hit my engine with enough force to crack the sensor.

i doubt something hit it. old things have to fall apart at some point.

Naw, just have to wait for the headers to cool off. That's the only hard part. LOL

That's a weak excuse. Don't be such a girly man. Remember pain is just weakness leaving the body.

That is true. I just didn't know I had so much weakness. I'll do it with the engine running then.
