  • Harmonic Balancer on the way out...

I've still got my '02 - chugging along at 72k miles, and a few eaten serpentine belts since the Powerdyne went in last October.

Issue du jour is - Looks as though the facing is starting to come off of the crank pulley (harmonic balancer) and I should replace it... you can see it wobble (even at idle), and and you can feel some vibration at freeway speed.

Question is... which PN# is correct for the '98-'02 V6s??? I've seen several balancer listings on eBay, but they all seem to be for the '95-'97. Do the ones for non-supercharged FWD L36s work for our cars?

    Thanks.
I've got dreams bigger than my wallet can handle. :work:

I'm about an hour west of Philly - PA Turnpike W to the Morgantown exit.

I'm about 15 minutes away from Maple Grove Raceway. Lived out this way for over a year and I still haven't made it over to get a time-slip, yet.

Well, I called a dealer - and here's the scoop...

        '98-'02 3.8 V6 Harmonic Balancer PN# 12563281 - $163.81

        gmpartsdirect.com lists it for - $96.88

If anyone on the board can offer workable alternatives, I'm all ears.

Mine went out at 160,000 miles , had to replace it last month or so, when it finally goes out you will here a loud metal clanking sound at idle. I guess they dry rott from the inside of the pulley. Thats what mine did , outside didn't look too bad, but the inside look like hell. I think you will need a new crank bolt too, there TTY.
