  • How do you remove tire from rim?

Hey just a quick Q. I'm trying to remove my old rims from my old tires, and i was wondering what the best way to do it is? please note: i do not care at all about the tires, they don't have to be preserved. I want to sell the rims if i can. Thanx

just take it to a tire shop and have them do it... they use a machine press to break the tires loose. Otherwise, you'll probably end up hurting the edges of the rims.

not sure about your area... wal-mart usually charges less than 5 dollars and some tire places will charge you less then 15 dollars.

aight, thanx alot. The only question now is whether someone will actually wanna buy stock 5 slot rims from a 93 firebird.... i can't see why anyone would but i guess its worth puttin them up on ebay for a while. They charge 120 bux for 1 of these rims brand new, thats nuts. I would prolly sell all four for 120 =)

          thanx again

Someone who has hubcaps may want them... someone may use them for the drag strip... winter... or just to have incase. You could sell these for 150 probably.

it's cheaper to get a tire shop to take them off, then to replace just one rim.

if you accidentally screw up one of the rims trying to get it off, it's going to be a lot more expensive to replace the rim than taking it to a shop to get all four tires off of the wheels...

It would cost me nothing because i have a tire machine
But yea just take it to a shop so you dont have to worry about it

Re: How do you remove tire from rim?

I took 4 old bias ply tires off my Rally rims for my 69 camaro so I could restore the rims. It was a pain as I couldn't get the beads to break loose. So I drilled a hole in the side of the tire, took out my reciprocating saw and cut away the sides as close to the rims as I could get. Then I got out my bolt cutters to cut up the steel belts. That was 2 hours of my life I'll never get back. My advice is take it to a shop and pay the $15 to have the tires removed.
